Want to make your child ‘a model’
If you think that your child has what it takes to make it as a model then read on. Do as much research as you can before you sign your child up with an agency. There is potentially a lot of work out there for your child if you find the right agency. The ages that get modelling work are 0-18 months and 3 years and upwards.
Most high street and designer brands have childrenswear and are therefore always looking for bright little faces to promote their brand. Provided your child has a great smile, bright eyes and a winning personality then they could have a great career as a child models. Unlike adult modelling there are no height or weight restrictions which is great news for you. All agencies and brands want is a cute smiling face to help them promote their products.
So, the big question is how do you get your child into modelling? Before we answer that you must be sure that your child will enjoy modelling. Do they like having their photograph taken? Do they have the patience to pose for a photographer? If the answer is no to either of these questions then it would be unfair to pursue a modelling career for your child just yet or perhaps revisit the idea in a few years once they are more comfortable in front of the camera.

If the answer was yes then the first step would be to test how well your child is in front of a professional camera by taking him/her to a real photoshoot. This essentially kills two birds with one stone as it will show you how your child reacts in front of a full team and you will end up with some professional photos to start your child’s portfolio.
First Step Modelling professional photographers will be able to advise you on what agencies look for with regards to child models – and will be able to coax the best expressions and poses from them enabling them to look their most photogenic. Unlike adult modelling you will also need to update your child’s portfolio regularly (as children grow so fast).
The recommended time is:
Babies – every six months
6 and under – every 12- 18 months
7 – 11 – every 2 years
Remember that your child should always look age appropriate in their photographs and they should also look comfortable, confident and their personality should shine through.
