Aspiring teen models under the age of 18 need consent from a parent or legal guardian before they can embark on a modelling career. Teen models are aged 12 – 17. Those under 12 are considered child models. There is a lot of work to be garnered within the teen market as advertisers are constantly marketing products and brands to this demographic.
It is vital to have a supportive parent/guardian as they are legally obligated to accompany the teen to castings and bookings. Teen modelling can be very rewarding and is a fun exciting way to earn pocket money. It will also give them an insight into what it is like to be a full-time model should they wish to pursue it as a career after education. All good agencies should be very understanding with regards to school commitments and will often organise castings/shoots at weekends, during school holidays or after hours.
As with adult modelling there are different categories of teen modelling

To become a teen model there are two options – most people sign with a reputable agency who will actively seek work for them. The second option is to go down the freelance route.
As a freelancer you will do all of the job-hunting yourself. The benefits of being a freelancer are that you do not have to pay agency fees and you can control when and where you work. Regardless of the option you choose you will need to make sure that they have a quality portfolio to help them to secure work. First Step Modelling can advise you on what type of portfolio to use to start their career.
As your child is under the age of 18 you will effectively be their manager. You will need to familiarise yourself with their stats – age, height, weight, dress/shoe size, hair and eye colour. An agency will often need this information at a moments notice for clients. A professional way to do this is with a Z-card. A Z-Card is effectively a model’s business card. Call today to find out more about our Z-cards.

Teen models are always in demand. Successful teen models will need to have a confident, outgoing personality. As well as being hard working they will need to be determined, thick-skinned and able to take direction. It is important to have a healthy body image and to feel comfortable in front of the camera.
As mentioned teen modelling can be very fulfilling so it is important that they enjoy the work and make the most of the opportunities. Our First Step Modelling teen Models Shoot Days are fun, exciting and educational. It’s also a great way to show you, their parent/guardian, how serious they are about modelling and whether they have what it takes.
Our expert team will coach them on how to pose for photographers. They will learn about the proper use of facial expressions to help them look good in any picture. First Step Modelling will provide them with all the help they need to start their career as a teen model.
